The countdown to Breeze Challenge Lancashire is on, as Breeze Challenge Lancashire was officially launched at the event host location – Lancaster University.

With hundreds of women set to descend on Lancashire in celebration of all things women's recreational cycling, it sure will be a great day as British Cycling's Breeze Challenge Events comes back to the North West for the second time.

At the launch event Breeze Champions, British Cycling representatives, members of Lancaster University and Breeze network Champions and riders met to toast the success of the event, take part in a training ride and to encourage more women cyclists to join the fun. With specially commissioned training rides taking place from the University throughout the next few weeks, there is ample opportunity to get the training in and get those legs ready for a challenge.

Speaking at the event, Caroline Gilbert, British Cycling Recreation Manager for Lancashire and Cumbria, said: ‘We're delighted to be back in Lancashire and one of the UK’s top sports universities for Breeze Challenge Events 2015. Last year was just incredible and we can’t wait to bring the events back this summer even bigger and better than ever before.

‘Lancaster University provide a perfect host location for Breeze Challenge Events, with great cycling route links through some of the regions real beauty spots.

‘It's fantastic to be seeing so much support for Breeze Challenge Lancashire already and we can’t wait for event day to arrive.’ Natalie Sutcliffe from the Lancaster University Students’ Union said: ‘Events such as the Breeze Challenge are a fantastic way to encourage women to simply join in and give something new a go with no fear of judgment.

‘It also helps more women discover the mental and physical benefits of exercise and demonstrates that you don’t have to be sporty to be involved, you can just turn up, wearing whatever you’re comfortable in and have fun!’ Stewart Kellett, Recreations & Partnership Director at British Cycling said, “We're really looking forward to returning to Lancashire on event day and welcoming all our riders to Breeze Challenge Lancashire.

‘We're pleased to be able to offer our Breeze riders more choice than ever before, and our Challenge Events really do encourage riders to test their legs, cycle further and enjoy a cracking challenge event with all the fun and support Breeze are known for, ‘Whether it’s your first attempt at 50km or you’re a seasoned sportive rider, it’ll be a fantastic day and a fabulous celebration of women’s recreational cycling.’ What's more, ladies who fundraise for event partner Cancer Research UK could also win a signed GB Cycling Team jersey.

The Breeze Challenge Event Lancashire is perfect for women looking to take their cycling to the next level. Routes are now up on the Breeze Challenge website and with a stunning 50km or 100km route on offer, there'll be support for everyone from sign-up to warm down – and an unforgettable festival atmosphere on the day.
