BRISTOL CITY 1 BURNLEY 2

TWO goals in six first half minutes were enough to earn back-to-back wins for Burnley.

Early top scorer Michael Keane took his tally for the season to three, after Ben Mee had given the Clarets the lead.

Both goals were headers from corners, and it was what Burnley needed to get on top after finding themselves on the back foot against former manager Steve Cotterill's determined and organised Bristol City side.

Bristol City pulled a goal back in the last minute of stoppage time, when the ball hit Jonathan Kodjia from close range and went in.

The Robins were on the front foot for much of the first half and conjured a host of chances, utilising the width of a five-man midfield and driving at the defence.

But goalkeeper Tom Heaton had good protection from the back four, with Tendayi Darikwa and Mee both making vital blocks before the deadlock was broken.

Andre Gray struggled to make an impact on his Burnley debut, and received a hostile reception from the home fans after he turned down a move to Ashton Gate before joining the Clarets.

But Sean Dyche’s side settled after Mee scored against the run of play, climbing to thump a terrific header into the top right corner from Jones’ flag kick.

Keane doubled the lead in similar fashion five minutes before the break. And from there Burnley were relatively comfortable.

The woodwork came to the rescue midway through the second half when Derrick Williams took aim from distance.

Heaton was well beaten but the ball bounced off the right hand post.

Burnley will be disappointed to miss out on a clean sheet after Kodjia’s fortuitous late goal, but their lead was never under threat.
