THERE are plenty of events going on in East Lancashire this weekend as the school holidays reach their final stretch.

A 1940s-themed day is being held in Darwen on Saturday from 10am until 5pm in the Market Square.

There will be various entertainment throughout the day with the feel of wartime Britain.

People are being invited to join in the fun and wear some 1940s outfits.

Great Harwood Civic Society is maintaining the tradition of the ‘Crying’ of the Great Harwood Fair.

It takes place on Saturday at 9am when town crier Rawden Kerr does his bit on the Town Square, Great Harwood.

The Mayor of Hyndburn, Cllr Marlene Haworth, will be in attendance, accompanied by members of Great Harwood Civic Society.

Residents of Great Harwood and elsewhere are invited to join in the colourful and historic ceremony which commemorates the charter being granted to Great Harwood in 1318.

Blackburn Hawks take on international opposition when they play ViiKingit Jääkiekko from Helsinki in the Finland Challenge at Blackburn Ice Arena on Saturday.

A family fun day takes place on Sunday organised by the young people’s service and early years team from 11am until 2pm at Bangor Street community centre, Blackburn.

Simon Entwistle’s spooky tour of the hall takes place at Samlesbury Hall from 11am until 4pm.

An unusual plant fair is also being hosted on Sunday at Hoghton Tower from 11am. Admission to the fair is free but parking is £1.
