LUKAS Jutkiewicz’s taste in music is so varied the Jukebox could almost be named after him.

The striker’s current selection ranges from The Doors to The Strokes, with a bit of folk music courtesy of Bear’s Den and Vance Joy thrown in for good measure.

Steven Thompson was Burnley’s last music man, taking his guitar on away trips and tours abroad.

Cup-tied throughout the Clarets’ journey to the League Cup semi-finals having played for Cardiff before his move to Turf Moor, the striker went along for the ride and provided the entertainment on the team bus and in the hotel lounges.

But Jutkiewicz, whose nickname is Juke, makes music for his own enjoyment, as a form of escapism after a hard day on the training ground or to wind down after a game.

“I use it more to zone out outside of football,” he explained.

“A lad I played with at Motherwell, Jim O’Brien, used to bring his guitar (on away games).

“But it’s just something I like to do to be able to get away from football so it wouldn’t be on the coach.

“It’s a big part of my life in terms of being able to switch off from football and being able to relax.

“I love listening to music and playing as well.

“It’s a great way for me to switch off in the afternoons.

“If that helps with the pressure of the game, you need that time to be able to take yourself away from it and then when the games come around you’re a little bit more relaxed.

“It’s nice to be a bit creative.

“In football you have to be put into certain brackets so it’s nice to be a little bit creative with the music side of things.”

Jutkiewicz writes his own lyrics and melodies and in team-mate Scott Arfield has found a kindred spirit.

“We both play guitar. It’s good fun,” he said.

“I think everyone expects us to come out with a Christmas single or something.

“I can’t imagine that will be happening anytime soon.

“I’ve written a few different things, Scotty has as well and we’ve done a couple of things together.

“It’s just for fun.”

From Juke-box, to 18-yard box, and for the second year running Jutkiewicz finished top pre-season scorer for the Clarets.

He has yet to transfer that form into a competitive game.

But the striker said it would be ideal to get off the mark and help Burnley to their first win of the season in their first home game today.

“It would be brilliant,” said the 26-year-old ahead of the lunch-time clash with Birmingham City (kick-off 12.30pm).

“Individually and as a team we’re all working as hard as we can to achieve a positive result on Saturday and hopefully give the fans something to cheer about.

“I think it’s too early to know what to expect from Birmingham. Obviously we’ve done the homework from their last game but the league takes itself a while to sort out anyway.

“It often takes four or five weekends before it all starts to settle down and you get a gauge of where you’re at.

“We were frustrated not to start with a win but looking back a point away at Elland Road in the first game, it was a good atmosphere there, so we can’t be too dis-satisfied.

“I think we were unfortunate perhaps not to get if not one possibly two penalties in the first half but that’s gone. There’s no point in dwelling on it otherwise you become a little bit of a victim and there’s no point in that so we have to move on and hopefully it evens itself out.”

The former Everton and Middlesbrough striker added: “There’s a lot more money been pumped into the Championship again. It’s wide open as it pretty much has been every year in the Championship.

“There are plenty of teams out there who are thinking they’ve got a right chance and we’re certainly one of them.

“We all want to put a marker down. That’s the pressure we put on ourselves. There’s a different level of expectation surrounding us from last year but it’s important we have that expectation on ourselves.

“All the lads are desperate to get back there having had a taste of it.

“It certainly spurs you on.

“I wasn’t here the year the lads got promoted but obviously they’ve all got great memories of that.

“It would be brilliant to replicate that.”
