WHEN I saw last weekend’s line-up for the final friendly I wondered if that would be the team to start the season.

Michael Kightly looks like he is back in favour, which is good news because when things have happened for Burnley in wins and big games he has been a large part of it.

We look strong at the back and there are legs in midfield, and if last weekend is any gauge, Jelle Vossen and Lukas Jutkiewicz will start up front.

It’s a steady away side, and I’m optimistic for our chances of another promotion challenge. But I’m still a bit concerned about where the goals are going to come from.

I’m not sure there’s a 30/40-goal partnership like Sam Vokes and Danny Ings ‘Vings’ in the promotion campaign.

Vokes seems to need a bit more time to get back in his stride after a bad injury, so Vossen is looking like the main man, while Juke has had a good summer.

He did the same 12 months ago but wasn’t able to transfer it into the Premier League, so there is pressure on him to produce and I hope he can.

His summer strike rate should give him a bit of a lift and if he can nick a goal or two tomorrow I’m sure he can kick on from there and get the confidence that all strikers thrive on.

Sneaking a 1-0 win at Leeds, with Vossen or Juke off the mark, would be a big foundation to build on.

After that it’s Port Vale in the cup and I can’t see the side being tinkered with unnecessarily because at this early stage of the season it’s important to get into good habits, get the fitness up and get consistency in performance and selection.

August is massive for Burnley. They need to get off to a good start and Leeds is a tough place to do that.

We’ve got to make sure we don’t lose in August, add another player or two and then re-assess from there.

Burnley are the team that I think everyone should fear.
