A KENDAL dentist practice is staging a cross bay walk to raise funds for a charity that has helped treat millions in the developing world.

Oasis Dental Care, on Stramongate, is organising the walk from Arnside to Kents Bank in the hope of reaching a £1,500 target to go towards Bridge2Aid.

The dental charity has in the past 10 years trained 400 clinical officers and given almost four million people across Tanzania and Rwanda access to safe dental pain relief.

The Kendal surgery's lead dentist, Melanie Yates, and her team raised £10,000 last year with the walk and fundraiser at Leeds Children's Charity in Silverdale.

"Three of us went to Tanzania in October and helped train local Tanzanian healthcare workers how to safely extract teeth and therefore help alleviate the suffering of many," she said. "Each programme trains six clinical officers who each work with a rural community of 60,000 people so the effects of the programme snowball."

Melanie has organised the Morecambe Bay crossing, which will be led by Queen’s Guide to the Sands Cedric Robinson, on Saturday, August 8.

The walk starts at noon and participants can turn up on the day and donate - just look out for the 'toothfairies'.
