Wm Morrison Godello 2013, £7.99, Morrisons
Godello is a white grape of north west Spain’s Galicia region identical to what’s called Verdelho in Australia. This own-brand example is crisp and light with lots of peach and tropical fruit flavours, 13% alcohol and tastes similar to some sauvignon blancs. The price is excellent and you may even find it on special and lower still.
Paul Mas Malbec 2014, £7.99, Morrisons
Most people would probably associate the rich, dark Malbec grape with Argentinian red wine but the grape’s original home is the Cahors area of France. Here celebrated winemakers Paul Mas in the south’s innovative Languedoc region or Pays d’Oc region have come up with a 13.5% drink full of jammy fruit and with a hint of liquorice.
