A STAR women's footballer is auctioning off a signed pair of gloves to raise money for St Andrews Scout group in Burnley.

The former Everton and England goalkeeper Rachel Brown-Finnis, a proud Claret season holder as a child, has put the framed momento on sale to raise money for her brother Nick, who is a Scout leader.

They want to help pay for 5th Burnley Scout Troop to go on a trip to the North West of England camp next year.

The listing on eBay, which currently has a bid of £41, says: "The gloves (Puma) were both signed by Rachel and lie in a pine deep picture frame.

"The frame has sat in the sun but the gloves and signature are in very good order and would look great on the wall of a fan or collector.

"We will also ask Rachel to write a personal letter to the winning bidder to certify that the gloves and signature are genuine."

Rachel, a former St Christopher's CE High School pupil in Accrington, began playing football at primary school, in a boys' team in nets.

She has recalled: "They were reluctant to let me join in. It was a case of, 'OK, if you must play you'd better go in goal.'"

She took her A–levels at Nelson and Colne College before heading to America and, on the international stage, Brown made her senior debut for England at the age of 16 and went on to represent her country in two World Cups and the 2012 Olympic Games.

In 2009 she was one of the first 17 women to be given central contracts by the Football Association and she started every game of England's women's 2009 campaign.

But in the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup qualifying win over Switzerland Brown was controversially sent off in England with Swiss forward Ramona Bachmann later admitting there wasn't a foul and apologising for her actions.

At Everton, who she joined in 2003, she has helped the Blues lift the FA Women’s Cup and finish runners-up in the women’s top-flight five times.

Over the last three weeks she has been part of the BBC media team which covered The Lionesses' journey to third place in the World Cup in Canada.

The auction will end at 10.45pm tomorrow.
