LAST month was “unseasonably” cool in East Lancashire.

That was the weather verdict from local expert Roy Chetham, of Huncoat, who released his four-weekly statistics yesterday.

Despite the lower-than-usual temperatures, the warm weather during the last week bumped the average up.

He said: “The final day of the month, Tuesday, reached 29.2C, the warmed day for nine years.

“In fact, a June day has never been so warm since June 18, 2000.

“Rainfall was very low with more than half of it coming on the first day. It was the third consecutive June with low rainfall.

“Sunshine was slightly above average.”

Mr Chetham also said the rainfall was surprisingly minimal during this week’s thunder storms.

He said: “A very spectacular thunderstorm started at 10.20pm on Wednesday with near continuous sheet and forked lightning.”
