EAST Lancashire residents wanting to make the most of the Bank Holiday weekend may be forced to dodge the showers as they do so.

After last week’s sunshine, the rain has returned and the forecast for May Day weekend is a wet one.

The weekend begins with a dry, cloudy Saturday morning but rain will arrive late in the afternoon and showers will be on and off all evening.

The forecast for Sunday is even worse, with heavy rain throughout most of the day, while May Day itself is set to be unsettled, with showers or longer spells of rain.

Forecasters are hoping that it may turn brighter as the day goes on.

Thankfully many of the events going on over the weekend are indoors, and anybody keen to enjoy a drop can attend the popular Blackburn Beer Festival, which is back after a successful weekend last year.

Over 60 beers will be on offer at Blackburn Rugby Club from Friday to Sunday.

There is also plenty of fun to be had for music aficionados. Belvedere and Calder Vale Sports Club is playing host to the Atlanta Blues Festival from Friday to Sunday.

And the Ribble Valley Jazz Festival has a packed line-up as it brings some of the world’s top jazz musicians to the countryside for gigs across the borough.

The weather might not be ideal for the UK’s first Cycle Tourist Festival, which will be based at Waddow Hall and will take in rides around the Forest of Bowland from Friday to Sunday.

You can keep the children entertained by taking them to East Lancashire Railway’s Day out with Thomas events, from Saturday to Monday.

On Monday Samlesbury Hall will host its fourth annual dog show from 11am to 4pm, with the event described as the best fun dog show in Lancashire.May 1-3, Clitheroe Cycle Touring Festival
