Space...The final Frontier(land)

MOUNT Morecambe is finally disappearing...leaving a huge open space ready for redevelopment on the former Frontierland site.

The former funfair on the central promenade has been left derelict since 1999 - with a giant mound of earth dominating the landscape in the centre of the once proud resort.

But now the mound, right behind the Morrison's supermarket, has been flattened in preparation for the transformation of the area.

A spokesman for the supermarket giant says: "The work is part of our ongoing development of the site. The bulldozers are in to make way for new building."

Lancaster City Council had served an untidy land notice on Morrison's, telling the company to reduce the mound to below the level of surrounding fencing.

The redeveloped site is set to include shops, a hotel and housing.
