The youngster was given the all-clear in May last year after receiving immunotherapy treatment in America, £250,000 was raised by people all over East Lancashire to fund the treatment.

And now a year on from his final doses, Sam’s scans have come back clear again, meaning his six-weekly clinic appointments at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital can now be decreased to every three months, with scans every six months.

The fighter’s mum Christine said: “We are so just so pleased that he is such a happy little boy and is once again living life to the max.

“Sam was thrilled at this news, as are we. We now have to have faith that the immunotherapy treatment has worked.

“Watching Sam playing during the Easter holidays, you would never know all his little body has endured, as he appears to be getting bigger and stronger everyday with endless energy.”

Christine said over the last few weeks she had finally been able to face sorting through all the mounds of paperwork and hospital notes that the family had collected since Sam’s diagnosis.

She added: “I have also been sorting out the good stuff too – all Sam’s certificates for bravery and treatment from the nurses at hospital, his Beads of Courage, the lovely get well cards, beautiful pictures and photos that were sent to Sam throughout his treatment to cheer him and to show him the fundraising events being held to help him get the treatment he needed in America, all the newspaper clippings, his Cancer Research Little Star Award, and his Local Hero Bravery Award. Words can’t describe how proud we are of our little soldier.”
