Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell has backed the decision of the Independent Casino Advisory Panel to allow Manchester to host Britain's first super casino.
The decision is the final blow to Blackpool's hopes for the decision to be changed.
There had been intense lobbying on the town's behalf since the initial decision was announced.
