NEIGHBOURS were involved in a 12-month row over a two-metre stretch of fence.

But the dispute has now been resolved after one householder agreed to remove a corner of the construction at the centre of the row.

Residents had feared cars reversing from a drive in Royal Oak Road, Blackburn, would cause a serious accident.

The height of the fence, erected at the rear of Mr Tahir Shah's home in Regents View last spring, has, according to neighbours, restricted vision and caused a road safety risk.

And they were worried that a child or someone passing the fence would be seriously hurt or injured as a result.

Mr Shah was granted permission to extend his property at a planning meeting last Thursday.

Rick Humphreys, 32, of Royal Oak Avenue, said: "I have no problems with the planning permission he was granted, it is his property and he can extend his however he wishes.

"The only objection I and other residents had is the two metre fence he has built at the side of his property.

"The fence created a total blind spot for anyone reversing out of my drive. You couldn't see anyone until they were behind the car.

"I just want to be able to pull out of my drive safely without endangering the lives of other people, including young children and Mr Shah's wife who walks past regularly.

"We have agreed that he will cut a one metre triangle at the corner which will give me some warning when I come out of the drive."

Another neighbour Brian Grimshaw, 40, said: "The fence blocked driving visibility, my two children play out and we were all concerned for their safety as there has been a number of near accidents.

"It wasn't just a problem for Rick but everyone in the area."

Mr Shah said: "We have reached a compromise and to my mind the matter has been resolved."
