A SHIFT worker has hit the nail on the head with a DIY website which has been viewed by millions.

Chez Rossi, 35, of Walmsley Street, Darwen, launched his site - www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk - because he hated seeing people ripped off' for jobs they could do themselves.

Just over two years later, despite limited computer knowledge, he says he has overtaken most of his competitors and is getting about 800,000 page views a month.

The full-time worker for acrylic products firm Lucite International has enjoyed DIY since he was a child.

The website gives advice on home repairs, plumbing, plastering, tiling, painting and decorating.

Chez said: "I just woke up one day and said I'm going to start a DIY website.' "I did a couple of pages then a link in a forum and now I have got 5,000 pages indexed in Google.

"I found other websites were bigger but now I've overtaken them.

"I only started it as a hobby and it took off and now it's phenomenal."

The site was listed as website of the month by readers of internet magazine Webuser just six months after it launched and the site was mentioned in the Sunday Times on February 18, which recommended it as a reliable site for advice.

Chez said: "I learnt quite a bit as I went along but I did have to ask quite a few people for advice. There's always something."

In December, Chez had to move the whole site to a dedicated server as it was so large and was getting too many hits to be on shared hosting.

He currently spends between 50 and 80 hours a week developing the site and is hoping to start giving video tutorials within the next few months.
