A FORMER Darwen schoolboy has achieved a distinction after a few months in the army.
Ian McClean, 17, of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, won the award for Best Shot in his training platoon.
The former Darwen Vale High School pupil joined the army in September and spent 20 weeks training in a subjects including first aid, survival techniques and weapon handling.
