I CAN'T pretend that the gap beginning to close at the bottom of the table isn't worrying me, but I do feel that getting that one win will start a domino effect.

The 0-0 draw at Colchester was a good point - you'd take a point away from home no matter what sort of run you were on, and the clean sheet will be good for the lads.

It proves the defence and goalkeeper are doing their jobs. Now it's up to the lads at the other end to do theirs because we need goals now more than anything.

Whenever I was going through a bad patch I used to stay behind after training and just fire balls into an empty net just to remind myself of the sound of it and how good it felt. It was the only way to get back into the swing of it.

I once went 10 games without scoring when I was at Barnsley. It was a nightmare because I'd done everything - hit the post, hit the bar, missed the target. I was stuck on 99 goals for ages. But then I got a tap-in and I scored a hat-trick in the same game.

That can happen in football. One goal for Ade Akinbiyi or Andy Gray can open the gate for so many more. And I believe the same can happen when it comes to wins.

I've no doubt the manager would give his right arm for one at the moment. There are no two ways about it - we desperately need a win. But it will come.

We haven't got a team of kids so I'm quite confident we will get out of this rut, as - I still suspect - will Robbie Blake's Leeds.

Every week they keep getting beat but I just can't see them not getting out of it because they've still got some big, experienced players playing for them, including former Claret Blake.

But, for Burnley, a home win is a must on Saturday against Crystal Palace.

The difference between one point and three points is massive because it's so tight down there now.

I still struggle to get my head around how all this has happened after the start to the season we had, and I'm sure I'm not on my own. No-one would have predicted this.

But I always feared it would happen because of the size of the squad, and it was Sod's Law that Gray got injured just when he'd got into double figures and was out for over two months.

I'm sure there will still be a lot of twists and turns in the run-in, but once we get one win I'm certain we'll get a few on the bounce.
