Silverdale Golf Club swings into action for charity

Silverdale Golf Club members raised £1,200 for the Rosemere Cancer Foundation.

Derek Stephenson, last season’s mens’ captain, and lady captain Lyn Penswick organised the fundraising during their tenures in charge.

Every tactic from coffee mornings and car boot sales to the construction of a new ‘captain’s bunker’ was used to raise the money.

Mr Stephenson knows only too well about the devestating effects of cancer but also the good work that the Rosemere Cancer Foundation does after receiving treatment there for neck cancer in 2008.

He said: “My experience left me in no doubt but to choose Rosemere as the ‘captain’s charity’ for my year in office. The treatment I received was second to none and all the staff and volunteers were exceptional.”
