Shrimps hit by unlucky seven

Morecambe Res 1 Burnley Res 7

MORECAMBE Reserves suffered a heavy defeat against a strong Burnley side at Christie Park on Wednesday night.

The Shrimps actually took the lead through an 18th minute Carl Baker penalty and Michael Twiss twice came close to adding to the scoreline.

Shwan Jalal made some decent saves to keep Burnley at bay and the Shrimps led at the break.

Unfortunately they fell apart in the second period once Burnley boss Owen Coyle had scored twice to put his side ahead with two goals in three minutes.

The goals then came at regular intervals with Alan Mahon scoring a hat-trick with other strikes from McDonald and Michael Duff.

MORECAMBE: Jalal; Langford, Wisdom, Sorvel, Davies, Allen, Lloyd, McLachlan, Twiss, Hunter, Baker. Subs: Jarvis, Kelly, Stone, Woodward, Wilson BURNLEY: Kiraly, Spicer, Jordan, Duff, Unsworth, Randell, Jones, Mahon, Coyle, McDonald, O'Connor. Subs: Ritchie, Kay, Turner, Fletcher, Lynch.
