Draw is enough
Vale A 24 Carnforth 24
Carnforth retained the Andrew Crowe Memorial Shield in dramatic style with a sixth minute injury time penalty goal.
That kick from Kevin Hardy settled the annual fixture where the outcome hung in the balance throughout.
The visitors had steamed into a 13-10 lead at half-time with two penalties from Jason Barton and a try from Matt Short, converted by Barton.
Vale's points came from a second minute try courtesy from Wayne Bylthe and a late five pointer from Gavin Glennon.
During the second-half the lead changed hands three times after Hardy had dropped a snap drop goal at the beginning of the half.
Vale regained the lead with a try from Adam Macluskie converted by Callum Morrow before Barton poached a try.
A second try from Macluskie, again converted by Morrow, put the Vale in the driving seat but Carnforth refused to give up and their determination was rewarded with Hardy's penalty.
*Vale Vikings defeated Carnforth seconds, 36-14.
