Previous Occupation - History Teacher at the Tom Hood School. Worked for the Conservative Campaign Headquarters in London, heading up the Cities and Diversity section (2005-10).

Personal Overview - Former GLA member and experienced Local Government leader in London who was given the chance to take on this marginal seat at the 2010 elections. He has connections to Lancashire as he was born and grew up in the County. He had a long career in Local Government in London and was a single term GLA member becoming Deputy Conservative Group Leader on the Authority. He stood down from his Council role to concentrate on obtaining selection for this seat, where he was chosen at an 'Open Primary' in 2007. Became a PPS early in the 2010 parliament to Baroness Warsi, having previously been her Chief of Staff.

Personal Overview - He was born in Moss Side, Manchester and grew up in the suburban area of Burnage. From a legal background, having won a scholarship to St Bede's Roman Catholic Independent College he then studied law at university. He was a Barrister and worked as a Lawyer in the City of London before becoming a general counsel for hedge fund managers and acting as a legal and regulatory consultant to financial institutions. With his career experience in Legal and Financial matters it is not surprising that he has been the party spokesman on Financial Services, where he has debated the impact of EU financial regulations on the UK on a number of political TV and Radio programmes.
