Boy George shocked the audience during filming on The Voice by announcing he had “slept” with Prince – before backtracking, saying he’d only ever owned a poster of the star.
The pop star made the outrageous claim during live auditions for the BBC talent show, sending the watching crowd wild.
It all started when new coaches Paloma Faith and George were boasting about who they had collaborated with.
George, who replaces Tom Jones on this year’s panel, boasted: “I have duetted with some of the greatest soul singers in history including Luther Vandross and Smokey Robinson.”
Paloma replied: “Well OK, if we’re throwing big soul names out there I’ve performed with Prince.”
But George retorted: “Forget, that, darling, I’ve slept with Prince.”
A production team source reportedly told The Sun: “We just couldn’t believe what he had come out with – and the guys in the gallery were beside themselves. The crowd went absolutely wild because they thought they had just witnessed a massive celebrity exclusive.”
The other judges apparently loved the furore, with Will.i.am repeatedly high-fiving his co-judge.
But after things had died down, George reportedly said he hadn’t really slept with the American singer-songwriter – and just had his poster on his wall.
The fifth series of The Voice airs from January.
