Ben Haenow and Kelly Clarkson have teamed up on Ben’s first single since he won The X Factor last year.

Ben’s song Second Hand Heart will be “solid pop” with a “subtle country-folk undertone” and will drop on October 9, before his full album release in November.

The duo first hinted at a collaboration when they cryptically tweeted lyrics to the new single on Monday.

Ben said: “The idea of a feature wasn’t on the cards at first but when I heard the vocals on it I was blown away as it gave the song a whole new dimension.

“Especially having Kelly Clarkson too. It’s incredible. Her voice is insane. I instantly knew this was the first single.”

Kelly, who was forced to cancel her UK and Canada tour at the weekend on the advice of her doctors, seemed please to lend her powerhouse voice to Ben’s single.

“I fell in love with Second Hand Heart with the first listen.” Kelly said. ”Lyrically and musically, it is right up my alley. I am excited and honoured to be a part of Ben’s first single from his first album.”

It’s easy to forget that Kelly first found fame on reality TV too. Before she won her three Grammy awards, she triumphed on the first series of American Idol in 2002.

Ben beat out Fleur East and Andrea Faustini to come top in the 11th series of The X Factor and even reached the Christmas number one spot with his cover of OneRepublic’s Something I Need.

Signed to Simon Cowell’s SyCo label, Ben has been working hard on his new album in London and LA. He’s partnered with the songwriters behind some of Ed Sheeran, Rihanna and One Direction’s biggest hits.

Ben’s album will debut on November 13.
