Charlotte Rampling has revealed she doesn’t enjoy stripping off.

The 69-year-old star, who has bared her body in films such as 1974′s The Night Porter and Life During Wartime in 2009, admitted she still doesn’t feel comfortable doing those raunchy scenes.

“Intimate scenes, I don’t like doing. I’ve never liked doing them,” she said.

“I’m at ease with my body, but intimacy is intimacy, it’s not supposed to be seen.”

This time, Charlotte gets her kit off alongside Tom Courtenay in Andrew Haigh’s moving drama 45 Years. The pair play retired couple Geoff and Kate Mercer, who are about to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary when they receive some unexpected and unsettling news.

As for Tom, he is glad he finally got to film his first sex scene after more than half a century in the acting business.

“I don’t think I’ve ever done one, I was very excited at the prospect,” the 78-year-old said. “I thought, ‘Here I go, 77 years old’. I had to wait. Now it’s too late!”

Charlotte added: “No. You’re going to be around the world in your underpants! He was gung ho, no problem.”

Tom added: “I found it utterly easy, because it was so ungratuitous. It came so naturally out of his attempt to revive their youth together… and it doesn’t work out very well. It was so spot on in this story, I had no difficulty with it.”

Charlotte and Tom have already won awards at the Berlin Film Festival, where they were named best actor and actress, and the film landed the Best British Feature Film prize at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.

“We’re children. We keep our child inside us – actors a bit more than others – because we’re always doing that. We’re play acting and playing with life, so to have an award is a thrilling thing,” Charlotte revealed.

“It makes other people excited too. Anyone would be lying if they said otherwise.”

45 Years opens in cinemas on Friday, August 28.
