Jennifer Lawrence is Bill Murray’s greatest fan, and now – after years of shyly avoiding him – she’s finally met him, backstage at Comic-Con International in San Diego.
The actress has previously admitted to her idolisation of the 64-year-old actor. In 2012, the Hunger Games actress told The New York Times that she’d once spotted Bill at a function – but was too nervous to approach him: “I just stared at him awkwardly, as I’ll continue to do every time I see him at these functions.”
She later told Vanity Fair: “Once I’m obsessed with somebody I’m terrified of them instantly.”
But the 24-year-old appears to have got over her awkwardness and managed to contact Bill – with the help of her Hunger Games co-star Woody Harrelson, and some Dutch courage.
J-Law revealed during a panel at Comic Con in San Diego on Thursday that she’d made contact: “I’d kind of spoken to him through Woody Harrelson, I would send emails to Woody, mostly when I was drunk, of things that I had always wanted to say to Bill Murray.
“And so he received them… So just the fact that Bill Murray knows that I exist was like part one.”
Luckily for Jennifer, her hero was keen to talk: “Part two, he wanted to speak to me, and then he mentioned something about us working together – I don’t know! I’m excited about that, that was cool. ”
The American Hustle star also spoke about the relationship between fame and weight for female actresses.
She explained: ”Once you get to a certain place, people will hire you, and they just want you to be in their movies, and they don’t care.
“It’s more about the struggle for the actors and actresses who have not made it to a certain place where they’re hire-able no matter what. And there’s a lot of pressure.”
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 is released on November 20 in UK cinemas.
