Jaden Smith has landed a role in Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming Netflix musical TV drama.
The son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith is following in his famous parents’ footsteps by adding to his acting CV with a part in new series The Get Down.
He is set to play Marcus “Dizzee” Kipling, described as a “psychedelically talented and enigmatic graffiti writer”, in the 1970s-set series about a group of teenagers from the Bronx who make their way in New York City during the early years of hip hop.
A statement about his casting from Baz read: “Recently, Jaden has been seeking diverse and challenging roles and this is a testament to his passion to grow in the craft.
“In the short time he has joined our acting family, he has begun developing his The Get Down skill set, even taking lessons from the legendary graffiti artist Lady Pink of Wild Style fame, as well as steeping himself in the history and culture of the Bronx.”
Jaden will be starring alongside Jimmy Smits, Herizen Guardiola, Justice Smith, Shameik Moore, Skylan Brooks, Tremaine Brown Jr, Yahya Abdul-Mateen, and Mamoudou Athie.
The Get Down will air on Netflix in 2016.
