The peckish residents of Bear Grylls’ Pacific island tucked into a controversial meal during their final week on the island – baby turtles.
Twitter brought out the turtle emoji in force as the little creatures got a starring role in the Channel 4 series finale some five weeks since they arrived on the Pacific island.
At first they were simply watching the turtles make their way to the sea. Then they started helping some of the stragglers into the ocean.
Then they realised more little turtles hadn’t made it and the dead animals would potentially be a source of food for them – better that than leave them for the birds and snakes to eat.
Although not everyone devoured the meal.
This is how it played out on Twitter…
Oooo turtles
Don’t eat the turtles (!!)
Aw, they’re helping the turtles
They’re eating the turtles
Is it OK to eat dead turtles?
Away from the dilemma of eating already dead turtles – after they were cooked – here’s the highlights of the rest of the week:
They’ve lost 30 stone
Yep, that’s right. Between them they lost 30 stone.
They forgot to feed Phil
Doh. The group blamed it on lack of food, but when dishing out a broth, they forgot to serve up a portion for Phil and he missed out.
Kyle and Sam B went on expedition
There was a slight heart-in-mouth moment as Kyle and Sam embarked on an ill-thought out journey to the south of the island. They didn’t leave until 4pm and before they’d even turned around they were in pitch black.
They caught a pig
Rather like when the women on the other island caught a pig/found a tin of baked beans, not everyone believed the pig was entirely wild.
They went with the mantra of eating nose to tail, even possibly chomping through “little piggy willy”.
The end of the Croc and Trotter
The guys ended their camp by naming it the Croc and Trotter and playing games including tossing the caber. They gathered around a huge camp fire as Ross read a poem he’d written about island life.
The next day, they ceremoniously dampened their camp fire just after Bear returned.
Well done lads – they’ve only bloody done it! Just don’t ask them to go back for a year.
