Award-winning actress Lesley Manville will play a widow trying to rebuild her life after the death of her husband in a new comedy by the writer of Him & Her.
The BBC Two show, called Mum, is written by Stefan Golaszewski and reunites him with the show’s director, producer and executive producer.
Lesley, a regular star in many Mike Leigh films, won an Olivier Award for Best Actress for her role in Ghosts last year.
Other shows being prepared for the channel include Stag, which is described as a “darkly comic thriller”, starring Peep Show’s Jim Howick as a meek schoolteacher whose stag do goes very wrong.
The channel also confirmed it will take on hit US animation Family Guy which will leave its current home on BBC Three after the corporation announced its plans to move the digital channel online only.
