The trailer for a new film about Amy Winehouse shows footage of the star predicting she “wasn’t going to be very famous” and saying she’d never handle being a celebrity.
The movie, titled Amy, has been directed by Bafta award-winning filmmaker Asif Kapadia, the man behind the much-acclaimed Senna.
The teaser was launched on the official website (AmyFilm.co.uk) and is the first to be released for the title. In it, Winehouse can be seen singing and also talking to the camera.
She said: “Singing was always important to me but I never thought ‘Oh, I’ll end up singing, I’ll be a singer’.”
She added: “I wouldn’t write anything unless it was directly personal to me, just because I wouldn’t be able to tell the story right. I’m not a girl trying to be a star or trying to be anything other than a musician.”
When a voice behind the camera asked her: “How big do you think you’re going to be?” she replied: “I don’t. I don’t think I’m going to be at all famous. I don’t think I could handle it, I would probably go mad…”
The movie is described as telling the star’s story “in her own words” and will feature unseen archive footage and previously unheard songs of hers.
Winehouse died at the age of 27 in July 2011 from alcohol poisoning.
Amy is due for release in the UK on July 3, 2015.
