Joey Essex has landed a job usually reserved for the likes of Jeremy Paxman and David Dimbleby – he will be grilling the four main party political leaders in the run-up to the General Election.

The Only Way Is Essex star, known for his struggles to get to grips with basic current affairs and who has never voted, will be quizzing the candidates for the country’s leadership for his TV programme, according to The Sun.

As the star of ITV2′s Educating Joey Essex, the former reality TV favourite has travelled the world to try to gain greater life experience and general knowledge, but now he is set to take on his toughest task to date – interviewing David Cameron, Ed Miliband, Nick Clegg and Nigel Farage.

He has apparently made a series of blunders already, calling Liberal Democrat leader Clegg “Nick Leg”, referring to The Spectator magazine as Specsavers, and admitting he has no idea what Downing Street actually is.

The Conservative, Labour, Lib Dem and UKIP leaders are said to be keen to speak to Joey as they see him as the voice of youth.

Joey, who recently won Channel 4 winter games contest The Jump, has already struck up a friendship with Miliband who he posed for a selfie with last year, and said: “I’ll vote for him in the General Election but I don’t know what party he is, except it’s red.”

He has previously said of politics: “I used to do politics in school but they didn’t teach me the Prime Ministers. They taught me stuff like, things about the city… Is that politics?

“I would quite like to be the Prime Minister of Essex.”

An insider told The Sun: “The show will follow Joey’s journey learning about politics. He will meet the leaders in different environments, such as at rallies and events, but they will all be proper sit-down chats.

“By the end he can hopefully make the decision to vote because at the moment he doesn’t have a clue about any of it.”
