Emmerdale star Danny Miller has revealed a slap scene with co-star Lucy Pargeter was particularly authentic, bringing tears to his eyes.

Danny plays Aaron Livesy in the ITV soap and Lucy is his screen mum Chas Dingle, who gave him a slap when she found out about his affair with Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley), who is already in a relationship with Chrissie White.

He told What’s On TV: “It’s always refreshing working with Lucy. When Aaron first told Chas about Robert, she had to slap me and she did it for real which is against the rules really.

“People said ‘Wow, tears fell down your face after that slap’, but that wasn’t fake, she really cracked me with her right hand. There isn’t much in it between her and Pauline Quirke – she made my ears ring and Lucy nearly broke my jaw.”

Lucy added that she sometimes found it difficult to watch her screen son be messed around by love rat Robert: “I like the fact that we are seeing the vulnerable side of Aaron as he is with someone who could drop him like a stone. When I watch them on screen, I say ‘Don’t you dare be nasty to him!’ Heaven help Robert if Chas finds out he’s hurt her son.”

Danny said of his kissing scenes in the soap: “The kissing scenes are very different. Both Ryan and I go into it knowing that we have to kiss the way we do for real – all that’s different is the gender. We don’t like to rehearse too much and try and keep the feeling for the actual take.”

The pair also teased that there was plenty more to come from the storyline which sees Robert treating his secret lover Aaron badly.

Lucy teased: “Chas is not bothered by him. She is quite ballsy and sees him as a person who she can take on. Robert might play the big man, but he is a coward. However, he has something up his sleeve for Chas.

“Keep watching. The storyline has been brilliantly mapped out – it’s like a map of the underground and it all comes together cleverly.”

Danny warned: “You might see Robert go to extreme measures to avoid the truth coming out.”
