With Jeremy Clarkson’s BBC future set to be decided soon, rumours are rife about what his career has in store, with moves to America – or just to ITV – being talked about.
His personal popularity with viewers has never been in doubt for all that his gaffes have upset the people in charge at Broadcasting House.
He has 4.7 million Twitter followers and more than a million fans signed a petition demanding his return to the hit motoring show – making him a catch for most broadcasters.
The traditional escape route for BBC talent looking to leave the corporation is a big money move to ITV.
Clarkson could easily follow in the footsteps of Jonathan Ross, Susanna Reid, Des Lynam and The One Show pairing of Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley who have all made the move – some with more success than others.
Another potential port of call is Sky, but it is rumoured that Clarkson’s previous offences – especially those that saw him accused of racism – have put them off.
Perhaps the most intriguing suggestion came from an unlikely source, Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales, who tweeted on March 20: “Jeremy Clarkson will start his own show syndicated worldwide and own the rights and make a billion dollars. You heard it here first.”
