The X Factor could get a dramatic new look this year – and only Simon Cowell’s job is safe.
After getting trounced in the ratings by the BBC’s Saturday night rival Strictly Come Dancing, the ITV series looks set for an overhaul which could see the judges and format change.
The X Factor’s executive producer Richard Holloway told the Daily Mirror that some big changes were afoot for the upcoming series.
He said: “There will be some exciting changes. The name of the show will stay the same but we are looking at format and the judges.
“There will be some surprises this year. But I can’t go into detail. It is safe to say Simon is staying.”
However, judges Louis Walsh, Mel B and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini’s seats have not been confirmed on the panel and they are thought to be going into talks next month, with the judging line-up due to be announced in May.
Richard continued of trying to beat Strictly: “We have been making the show for 10 years and to make it popular you have to refresh the show.
“You need to look at every aspect and move with the times. There is an ongoing battle with Strictly. On overall volume they beat us last year. It has been a few years since we beat them on overall volume.
“It is quite interesting the split of the audience. It is very defined. Let battle commence but we would love to beat them.”
An X Factor source added: “Simon has already stated he is 99 per cent certain to be returning, but the other three judges are all keeping quiet.
“It could be the case that Mel, Cheryl and Louis all don’t return but it’s still too soon to speculate.”
