Russell Brand is set to be back on the airwaves with a return to XFM, the station that once fired him.

The comedian has been absent from radio for the last two years, but the station has now confirmed that his new audioBoom show, The Russell Brand Podcast, will broadcast exclusively on XFM from Sunday, March 15.

It will also feature his former co-presenter Matt Morgan, as well as poet laureate Mr Gee for topical content and typical Russell Brand humour.

Russell started his radio career at XFM in 2002 with Matt Morgan, but was fired when he read out pornographic material live on air. He returned for a one-off charity special in 2013, when he was joined by Noel Gallagher and Noel Fielding.

His other radio credentials include stints at BBC 6 Music and BBC Radio 2, which he had to leave after an on-air prank on Andrew Sachs with Jonathan Ross backfired.

XFM managing editor Chris Baughen said: “Having Russell return to XFM is great news and something we’ve wanted to do for a very long time. For me, radio is where he does his best work and along with many XFM and Russell Brand fans, I can’t wait to hear what he’s got in store.”

Amanda Brown, COO of audioBoom said: “We are delighted to be working with XFM to syndicate Russell Brand’s brilliant audio. audioBoom has always worked closely with the radio industry and this partnership consolidates a whole new digital model for creating and distributing global quality spoken word.

“By producing and hosting fresh and funny shows, audioBoom and XFM can work hand in hand to further utilise content and reach wider audiences.”

The podcast will air on XFM from 9pm to 10pm on Sundays.
