The Saint is set to make a comeback on ITV.

The classic 1960s series which featured international enemy of bad guys Simon Templar will be resurrected next year, according to the Radio Times.

Simon was originally played by Roger Moore from 1962 to 1969 before he went on to star as James Bond, and the character was known for leaving a drawing of a stick figure with a halo as his calling card.

The rebooted version is set to be penned by Ed Whitmore and Prey writer Chris Lunt, with a pilot episode expected to be ready to film next year.

Writer Ed said he didn’t know yet who would play The Saint, but added: “There is a post-Breaking Bad appetite for morally grey characters. Simon Templar is a kind of Robin Hood figure, he’s timeless.”

Ed has also written the upcoming ITV series Arthur And George, which is based on the Julian Barnes book about a real-life case that involved Sherlock Holmes creator Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
