Peter Andre has told how his fiancee Emily MacDonagh helped him through personal tragedy after his brother died of cancer.

The singer and TV star, 41, had started dating Emily, 25, just a couple of months before his brother passed away and credits her with helping him to deal with his grief.

He said: “For a long while I was in complete turmoil with a whole mix of emotions – so sad, angry, bitter, scared and unable to deal with the loss. I’ve never experienced pain like that before.

“I also became almost a commitment-phobe because I just couldn’t bear the thought of potentially losing someone again.

“But the genius Emily broke down those barriers, that’s for sure. It helped that while I’m an emotional thinker, she’s a logical thinker. It took a while but her love, support and encouragement got me through.”

Peter added: “Although you wish for happiness you never really know whether it is going to happen so honestly at one time I didn’t think I would ever be as happy as I am now. It’s amazing to be so content.”

The star has a one-year-old daughter, Amelia, with Emily and children Junior, 9 and Princess, 7, from his marriage to Katie Price.

He said of explaining his relationship with Emily to Junior and Princess: “Even though we’ve been together more than two years and could have married before, we wanted to do everything gradually because we wanted the kids to be happy about everything.

“We never kissed in front of them or anything and didn’t even let them know we were a couple until just before we got engaged just over a year ago.

“In the end, when I did propose, they were both thrilled and went, ‘Gosh, you took your time dad!’ because they’re always teasing me about being slow on everything from getting ready to making the dinner.”
