Gok Wan took on Abbey Clancy in a Shard-fought fight to be named star baker after they both recreated the London landmark in chocolate for The Great Comic Relief Bake Off.
The pair were joined by YouTube sensation Zoella and chatshow host Jonathan Ross on tonight’s show.
Jonathan rolled out what he called “avant garde baking” for his 24 cupcakes, but his smoky tasting sponge did not impress the judges. Meanwhile Abbey’s rainbow cupcakes were described as “exceptionally good”.
Gok put the boot in when his “lovely” choux buns were praised by the judges in the next round, while the other three struggled and it was him and Abbey out front for the showstopper challenge.
But then the Liverpudlian model’s tower toppled over and needed repairing with butter-cream cement and wooden supports, and she warned the judges: “Don’t get any splinters, there’s a million toothpicks in there.”
Gok eventually triumphed with a chocolate tower sprayed in metallic gold – which the dedicated follower of fashion explained was a “really big colour this autumn/winter”.
The TV star, who will compete in the final on Friday March 13, said: “There is blood, sweat, tears and a little bit of glitter in that cake.”
