With bright pink and orange curtains and ostentatious floral decorations, you’d have been forgiven for thinking you’d stepped into an outdoor Indian wedding if you passed through Leicester Square this evening.

The London landmark was actually hosting a star-studded world premiere of The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.

The street outside the famous venue was decked in drapes and flower garlands of yellow and pink, and an orange carpet replaced the traditional red hue in reflection of the film’s Indian setting.

Dame Judi Dench and her co-star Celia Imrie did not disappoint with their outfits – with Dame Judi in a multicoloured embroidered robe that would not look out of place on an Indian empress, while Celia wore pink and orange in a nod to the colours of Rajasthan, where much of the film was shot.

Fans eagerly awaiting the arrivals of the stars were given beautiful floral garlands.

The glamorous event was complete with Indian dancers in bright outfits, showing off their Bollywood-style dancing skills.

The dancers soon gave way to the VIP arrivals as stars walked the orange carpet, posing for photographs and giving press interviews.

Celebrities also had the opportunity to rub shoulders with royalty.

Dame Judi and Dame Maggie Smith were greeted with kisses on both cheeks by the Prince of Wales as he and the Duchess of Cornwall met the film’s stars at the Odeon cinema.

Indian starlet Tina Desai made her grand entrance in a bright pink and yellow custom-made auto rickshaw built by Hampshire retailer Tukshop.

Other cast members at the event included Ronald Pickup, Diana Hardcastle, Shazad Latif and Lillete Dubey, along with director John Madden and producer Graham Broadbent.

But those desperate for a glimpse of silver foxes Richard Gere and Bill Nighy were left disappointed as neither could make the film’s opening.
