Nicole Kidman and Dev Patel are to star in survival tale Lion.
The pair have signed on for roles in The Weinstein Company’s big-screen adaptation of Saroo Brierley’s memoir A Long Way Home.
Saroo’s book tells the story of how he was separated from his family as a child, and was later adopted by an Australian family. After growing up in Hobart, he decided to track down his family as an adult, using Google Earth and Facebook, and was reunited with them in 2012 – 25 years after he went missing.
Indian stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Priyanka Bose, Tannishtha Chatterjee and Deepti Naval will also join the film’s cast.
Lion, directed by Garth Davis, will start filming in Kolkata, India, before moving to Australia. Nicole’s scenes will take place in Australia around April and May.
Nicole, who played the villain in Paddington, next stars as British writer Gertrude Bell in Werner Herzog’s Queen Of The Desert. Her other upcoming films include thriller Strangerland, Jason Bateman’s comedy-drama The Family Fang and Michael Grandage’s Genius.
The Newsroom star Dev, who found fame in Skins and Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire, will reprise his role as Sonny Kapoor in The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, and also has roles in Neill Blomkamp’s Chappie and thriller Child 44, alongside Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace.
