Awards season kicks off this weekend with the Golden Globes, one of the hottest tickets of the season.

While it may not have the prestige of the Oscars, as any awards regular will tell you, the Golden Globes wins out over the other ceremonies every time when it comes to fun.

Not being the main event of the calendar gives the Golden Globes a bit of breathing space to find its sense of humour, meaning our favourite faces from the big and small screens look more relaxed, too.

We take a look back at some of our favourite moments from 2014′s ceremony as we get the popcorn ready and charge our glasses for Sunday’s festivities.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler

Ricky Gervais had the Golden Globes gig for a good run, so when double act presenters Tina Fey and Amy Poehler took over in 2013, it seemed the awards were set for a breath of fresh air – particularly as some stars had complained about Ricky’s wit becoming a little too acerbic.

We soon realised the ceremony was in good hands thanks to Tina and Amy’s hilarious jokes, snappy presenting style and good-natured ribbing of the assembled A-listers, and last year they were even better.

Our top gag of the 2014 ceremony has to be their take on George Clooney’s starring role in Gravity…

Amy wasn’t just the host on the night – she also bagged Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Comedy or Musical for her role in Parks And Recreation, and celebrated by giving U2′s Bono a kiss.

Another favourite moment was when Amy made a surprise appearance as Tina’s “adult son from a previous relationship” and Mr Golden Globe, Randy.

From Matthew McConaughey’s heartfelt speech to Jennifer Lawrence’s joke that she hadn’t got around to watching all of her competitors’ films, there’s something about the Golden Globes that seems to help the winners relax a little bit more into their moment on stage.

Our favourites from 2014 include Aaron Paul having the time of his life collecting a trophy for Breaking Bad…

…Cate Blanchett admitting to having “a few vodkas under my belt”…

…Jacqueline Bisset getting carried away by her win after first being nominated for a Golden Globe 47 years earlier (here’s a condensed version)…

…and Emma Thompson tiring of her shoes once and for all.

If there’s one awards ceremony we’d love to be a guest at, we think we’d pick the Golden Globes over the Oscars because it just looks like a really fun night out with a huge group of friends who all happen to be famous and super talented.

Jennifer Lawrence is always good for a laugh at these sorts of fancy dos, and she didn’t let us down last year with a brilliant Taylor Swift photobomb, managing to lose some incredibly expensive jewellery on the red carpet, and giving a very nervous speech about her surprise at winning an award.

However, J-Law wasn’t the only one who had us giggling at the Golden Globes last year – Julia Louis-Dreyfus made the most of her nominations in both film and TV categories, pretending to be too aloof even to pose for a photo with Reese Witherspoon.

We can’t wait to see what’s in store for us this year!
