Mark Ronson has got his revenge on The X Factor by reclaiming the number one spot in the singles charts, dethroning talent show champion Ben Haenow.

Uptown Funk, Mark’s collaboration with Bruno Mars, returned to the chart summit after X Factor winner Ben seized the coveted Christmas number one title with his debut single, a cover of One Republic’s Something I Need.

Mark’s first number one was released five weeks early after it was performed by Fleur East on The X Factor – something which the multi-instrumentalist initially said he was “a little bit annoyed” about.

And after having the soul-funk hit relegated from the top by The X Factor winner Ben last week, Mark can at least have the distinction of claiming the final number one of 2014 at the expense of the ITV show winner.

It meant Ben, 29, dropped to two in the charts ahead of fellow Brit Ed Sheeran who held on to third with Thinking Out Loud.

American songstress Taylor Swift moved up three places to fourth with Blank Space, while X Factor old boy Olly Murs dropped one to fifth with Up, his collaboration with Demi Lovato.

The only new entry went to Alesso featuring Tove Lo with Heroes (We Could Be).

And there was a familiar look to the album chart, with Ed Sheeran’s X holding on to top spot.

The album logged its 12th non-consecutive week at number one with sales of 211,000, his second biggest one-week sales tally since the LP’s release back in June.

The top five was completed by Sam Smith, Olly Murs, George Ezra and Take That, who all held their positions.
