The classic crime thriller comedy Get Shorty is the latest Hollywood film to get a small screen makeover.

Based on Elmore Leonard’s novel of the same name, it starred John Travolta as Miami loan shark Chili Palmer who comes to LA to collect a debt and ends up moving into the movie business.

Travolta won a Golden Globe for the 1995 movie, which also featured Gene Hackman, Danny DeVito and Rene Russo.

The TV reboot will be written by Damages’ Davey Holmes and centre on Miles Daly, who moves to LA with his daughter to escape the crime ring he works for in Nevada, planning to become a movie producer. Unfortunately Daly will bring the crime business with him to LA.

No casting has yet been announced.

Get Shorty’s sequel Be Cool, starring Travolta, The Rock and Uma Thurman, was panned by critics on release in 2005 so here’s hoping the TV reboot will fare better.

The 10-part remake will air on premium channel EPIX when released in summer 2017.
