Model and mother-to-be Lily Cole has made a documentary about the effect having children has on artists’ lives.
The show, inspired by critic Cyril Connolly’s much quoted remark that “the pram in the hall” was the “enemy of good art”, is part of a new series dedicated to the arts.
Lily, currently eight months pregnant, will examine the career of sculptor Barbara Hepworth, who combined her artistic endeavours with bringing up four children.
Artsnight, which will run every Friday for 30 weeks as part of Newsnight, will also feature presenters including Richard Wilson, Andrew Marr and Martha Lane Fox.
Andrew will examine whether our national obsession with Shakespeare is obscuring the work of other dramatists and Martha will discuss the relationship between art and science.
Richard, who recently starred in Samuel Beckett’s play Krapp’s Last Tape, will look at the legacy of the enigmatic Irish writer.
