Idris Elba has jumped on the remix of Skepta’s newest single Shutdown – referencing the character he played in The Wire, Stringer Bell.
Elba is best known as an actor but is also a DJ, and is said to be working on an album based on his character Luther from the hit BBC crime drama.
His first album was Mi Mandela, a celebration of South African music inspired by Nelson Mandela, who Elba played in Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom.
It wasn’t a commercial success because it wasn’t commercial enough, as Elba admitted to the Evening Standard, and he was subsequently dropped by his record label Parlophone.
Skepta’s brother JME is clearly a fan of the remix though.
And that seems to be the general consensus.
