How did One Direction get out of their hotel undetected?

The boyband’s antics in South America have been made into a special behind-the-scenes TV documentary for NBC, and the lads reveal how they cannot go anywhere in the world without being mobbed by fans.

While staying in Rio de Janeiro for their world tour, 1D – Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik – were hidden in a bread van padded with pillows to leave their hotel and go sightseeing.

Liam joked: “We’re about to head out to go and see another wonder of the world I think, actually – Christ the Redeemer in Rio.

“But there’s so many fans outside we’re being smuggled out in a bread van as our disguise. I like this, it’s like a little adventure.”

One Direction make it out of their hotel to see the famous art deco sculpture of Jesus Christ, designed by French sculptor Paul Landowski and built by the Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa, that stands over the city.

The boys pose for a selfie in front of the statue with their hands held out like Jesus.

Zayn said afterwards: “It’s massive and it was cool to be there and we get to say to our grandchildren that was where we went as a band.”

But the guys admit it can get pretty scary driving around the world and being mobbed by screaming teenagers – revealing their fans often come close to smashing their car windows.

Liam said: “The car goes past and people just start banging on the windows and screaming.

“There’s been places where we’ve had to hold the windows to put pressure on the other side so they don’t go through, because the kids just whack in the windows.”

And Harry revealed: “There was a guy driving and his daughter was out the sun roof and he was bumping the car in front to try and get it to move out the way. It’s just insane!”
