Tom Cruise, David Beckham, Simon Cowell and Hugh Jackman have become some of the latest stars to take part in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

Hugh Jackman took the fundraising challenge - in which participants post videos online of themselves being drenched with ice cold water in exchange for a charity donation - after being nominated by his Les Miserables co-star Russell Crowe.

Hugh doused himself with cold water on the set of the Pan origins film - in which he plays Blackbeard - along with co-stars Garrett Hedlund, Rooney Mara, Levi Miller and their entire cast and crew.

They went on to nominate Tom Cruise and the entire cast of Mission: Impossible 5 and Oscar Isaac and the entire cast of Star Wars.

Tom took up the challenge with his Mission Impossible director Chris McQuarrie - and had eight buckets poured over his head to make up for the fact they were unable to get the rest of the cast and crew all in one place.

Tom shivered: "S***! How much more?!"

Simon Cowell was already shuddering in anticipation as his recorded his video on his luxury yacht, while girlfriend Lauren Silverman stood behind him giggling with a bucket of water.

Simon has now nominated the rest of The X Factor judges - Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Louis Walsh and Mel B. They have less than 24 hours to accept.

David Beckham took the challenge after being nominated by Ryan Seacrest and has named Leonardo DiCaprio among his nominees.

And James Franco has posted his Ice Bucket Challenge video after being nominated by Selena Gomez.

Other big names to have already taken the challenge include Oprah Winfrey and Cara Delevingne.

The challenge raises money and awareness for the ALS Association, who are working to fight Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Motor Neurone Disease in the UK, to help those with Lou Gehrig's Disease.
