BOLTON business women Sue Tonks and Susan Ogden are determined to beat the property gloom with upbeat monthly seminars.
They have launched meetings with existing and potential property investors in an attempt to help spur on the local property market.
These meetings will link future property investors to local mortgage brokers, estate agents and letting agents, giving them a helping hand along the way.
The seminars are a way to help people interested in property investment find out how to finance property purchases, the type of properties to look for and how to go about buying and renting.
Sue Tonks, who is managing director of Synergy Training and Consulting Limited, explained: “The seminars are held in a friendly environment with lots of support and people to network with.
“We have speakers every month who share their own experiences of the ‘buy to let’ world in addition to local estate agents, mortgage lenders, letting agents, surveyors and representatives of BARLO (Bolton Accredited Landlord Scheme — which is headed up by Bolton Council) giving people a wider understanding of property as an investment and how good landlords operate.”
Sue Ogden, co-founder of the group, said: “Being a good landlord is a major part of having a long-term property investment. We want to encourage people to join accredited landlords’ schemes, wherever they rent, so we are using this forum to push the message out.”
There were, she said, currently many thousands of people on the Bolton Council housing list and many more are struggling through untimely and difficult repossessions and first-time buyers who cannot get mortgages.
The group shows how people can build up their own pensions through property investment and help the local market pick up, she said.
“The first seminar was a huge success. People said they had always been interested in property investment as a way to sustain their future financial stability but were unsure how to go about it especially in the current climate.
“We feel this is a great time to start to build up properties as an investment for the future.
“It is unlikely company and personal pension schemes will guarantee a comfortable life into retirement but property investment has always created long-term benefits,” said Sue Ogden.
Sue Tonks said the idea of property seminars came from people wanting to know more about property investment. They were set up as a training and networking opportunity.
The next seminar is on Monday, April 27 at 6.15pm for a 6.30pm start at the Friends Meeting House in Silverwell Street, Bolton.
A buffet will be provided and the cost is £10 per person and £15 for couples.
