Lean times at Carnforth...
CARNFORTH station is reeling in the film fans this week for a series of special events commemorating the centenary of director David Lean.
Tuesday marked 100 years since the birth of the man who used Carnforth station as a major location in his iconic wartime romance Brief Encounter'.
In celebration, the station and the Dukes Cinema are showing a retrospective' of his films all week.
The event began on Saturday with a screening of the film followed by a meal in the station's famous refreshment room, which featured heavily in the movie.
On Thursday The Dukes will show a special print of Dr Zhivago, followed by a lecture discussing Lean.
On Friday, After Dark theatre company will perform Still Life', the Noel Coward play that Brief Encounter is based on.
And the event ends on Saturday with a screening of Summer Madness', starring Katherine Hepburn - said to be Lean's favourite of all his films.
An exhibition of the life and work of David Lean will feature at the station's visitor centre until Saturday.
