LOOKING Back asked — and once again one of our readers answered!
Thanks to Mary Harkin of Blackburn, who has found a photograph of singer composer Jim Ainsworth in her family album.
Jim, from Blackburn, was a popular artist in the 1930s and he penned his best known piece ‘Just a Cot in Ribble Valley’ in 1931.
Many local families bought it as sheet music to sing around the piano in the parlour and it was also a big favourite among people who went to live overseas as a reminder of home.
Jim was, in fact, an insurance agent by profession and in our picture from the early 1950s, he is seen on the right.
On the left is Mary’s father, James Harkin and they are both offering their good wishes to Mr Sedgeley, the manager of Britannic Insurance in Blackburn, a happy retirement.
